The Desire To Make It Big From The Streets Of Nigeria

Young we all are with big dreams. Every mind on the streets is thinking about money, “where them dey see this money” or the cut soap for me slang.

Obeleagu street, Onitsha.

If you have lived in the streets then you know that feeling- the powerlessness over lack.

That feeling that makes your heart freeze and only the burning desire for success keeps you going. The everyday goal is to unchain from poverty.

The search for the power to eliminate lack and wipe Mama’s tears. The overwhelming desire to make it big and to put a smile, pride on the faces of loved ones.

We pray, fast and hustle hard, yet it seems like village people have locked the padlock.

This pushes one to question if God watches, why he is quiet and not settling us like he has been blessing others.

Ain’t God hearing prayers anymore? all we ask is the grace to beat owo, yet nothing to show.

Denial of opportunities despite qualifications and passion because we know not the big men who have the influence.

Life on the streets isn’t balanced…

The street!…no one wants to remain here. There is true happiness and love, real friends, fun but lack steals these away. It’s a reality that taunts.

The desperation for success has changed many, stolen from us and killed a lot. But we keep moving towards becoming rich or at least die trying…

We chase money all day and go back at night and ask how close we are to this wealth we pursue.

Life out here is hard and rough. Success will reach us all and when you can lift others do. One day we will wash owo and make family proud.

As we chase success, hustling and taking risks, remember losing your life will only add salt to Mama’s wounds.

Simi and Cobhams say it all in their song,’ We Plenti’. Don’t give up,your beans go done.
